Regulatory Information: Patents + Trademarks
Our Patented Product and the Method of Making the Roofing Product: U.S. Patent No. Re 35,603, U.S. Patent No. 6,451,409 B1 U.S. Patent No. 6,652,909 B2 U.S. Patent No. 7,201,946 B2 U.S. Patent No. 7,666,498 B2, Canadian Patent No. 2,187,716, Canadian Patent No. 2,521,764, Mexican Patent: Titulo de Patente No. 274497 (Instituto Mexicano de la Propiedad Industrial ("IMPI") and other U.S. and/or foreign patent applications, patents pending and may included patents received but not listed above. Our Trademarks: The "FAST FELT" and "FELT RAPIDO" words and the logo depicting a roofing nail in the cross hairs of a nail gun are registered trademarks. Other Fast Felt® technology trademarks are the words: "Just Nail It" and "Solo Clavelo". About the Fast Felt® TechnologyThe FAST FELT® technology is embodied in custom-built machinery and custom-formulated polymers which are installed/used in the existing asphalt saturation manufacturing process to produce Fast Felt® underlayment. This custom-built machinery is able to "slide" into an existing asphalt saturation line or asphalt shingle roofing line and the felt web can be threaded through it. Therefore, once the machinery is powered on and ready to work and the line operator wishes to shift production to Fast Felt® products, the operator engages the felt web into the Fast Felt® machinery. The Fast Felt® machinery has its own rolls, motors and other electronic and mechanical parts which function in a synchronized operation to the asphalt saturation line, including the speed of the felt web. The Fast Felt® Tab polymer material is unique to Fast Felt Corporation and its Fast Felt® products. This polymer compound has properties which result in a toughness (hardness) to slow the head of the nail from pulling through the completed Tab, an elasticity (ability to stretch) to allow the asphalt saturated felt to move around the shank and head of the nail, and certain other additives. The Fast Felt® technology embodied in the custom-built machinery and licensed by Fast Felt Corporation is covered by existing U.S. and foreign patents issued and pending and which, currently, have expiration dates as late as the year 2023 and beyond.
This Fast Felt® underlayment product can materially improve the roofing felt installation process because of the strength of the nail rupture (pull-through) performance of its integrated nail caps and its easily identifiable nailing spots. The patented technology utilized by Fast Felt Corporation allows roofing contractors to realize savings from the use of its pre-tabbed product because of its faster application, reduced job site clean-up, etc. compared to traditional manually applied metal or plastic tabs separately nailed onto the felt. FAST FELT® is manufactured on machinery which employs proprietary technology and patented processes. Asphalt Saturated Felt (“Tar Paper”) - A Necessary Roofing Component MaterialAsphalt saturated felt is commonly called tar paper and is used primarily as a shingle underlayment but is also used under all kinds of roofing products from metal roofs to wood shingle roofs. Tar paper is applied directly onto the wood roof deck and is often thought to be the wood’s last protection from water and the resultant damage it can cause to both the wood roof deck and the interior of the home or building.
Almost all tar paper is manufactured using a dry felt, or organic, base sheet or substrate. A sample of tar paper would usually be comprised one-half of dry felt paper and one-half asphalt by weight. Therefore, the manufacturer’s intent is to saturate 100% of the weight of the dry felt with asphalt to create a roofing material which is impermeable to water. “Fast Felt®” – A Premium Asphalt Saturated Felt ProductThe patented product, Fast Felt® roofing underlayment, has reinforcement tabs pre-affixed to the asphalt saturated felt during manufacture. Click here for a demonstration of FAST FELT® VS traditional "Tin Cap" technology. These Fast Felt® Tabs may be affixed to almost any rolled roofing product. When these Fast Felt® Tabs are affixed to a roll of asphalt saturated felt, the performance of the felt increases and the building owner receives a premium felt underlayment product.
Below is a December 2005 color photograph of a partial roll of Fast Felt® pulled off the asphalt saturated felt manufacturing line for inspection. This photograph should provide a clear picture of our Fast Felt® for Florida product. (Notice the yellow line down the center of the sheet.) For the Florida High Velocity Hurricane Zone ("HVHZ") areas, our Fast Felt® Tabs are installed onto the ASTM D226, Type II asphalt saturated felt during its manufacturing process. This can be performed without any material reduction in the asphalt saturation line's usual productivity.
